What Is Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun (地縛少年花子くん)?

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

It’s a horror school comedy by Aida Iro Sensei, serialized in G Fantasy.

 

There is a weird【mystery】that is handed down in Kamome Gakuen. There exists “Hanako-San” in the third toilet from the front in the old building of the school and she makes any wishes come true for anyone who calls her.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Yashiro Nene, who easily falls in love with boys and loves stuff like occults or magic, knocked the door of the third girls’ toilet from the front. And there…?!

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mafuyu(^q^)/ :Guess what? It was a boy-version “Hanako-San”!!!

 

 

 

What is a mystery “Toire no Hanako-San”, handed down to Japanese Schools?

 

 

It’s a Japanese urban legend about the spirit of a young girl named Hanako-San, who haunts school bathroom.

She is believed to have fun, dragging anyone who visits her bathroom away to the different world.

 

 “If you knock the door of the bathroom on the third floor of school three times and ask, ‘Is Hanako-san here?’, and do the same thing repeatedly from the first toilet to the last, then she replies ‘yes’ in a small voice. If you open the door, you will see a bobbed-hair girl in a red skirt and will be dragged into the toilet.”

 

 

 

Mafuyu(^q^)/ :Like this, the “Hanako-San”handed down to Japan, has to be a girl. However, here, the one you see was…. a boy!

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mafuyu(^q^)/ : Hanako-Kun, who was called by Nene-Chan was asked a wish by Nene-Chan, saying “I want my ideal Senpai to love me! Make my wish come true, please!”. Hanako-Kun kind of threatened Nene-Chan, saying “You should know that you will pay the cost by depending on a mysterious power, which never exists in this world”. But again, Hanako-Kun ended up suggesting that Nene-Chan should read a ‘love’ manual book, saying “…I really don’t have such power”.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mafuyu(^q^)/ :They have tried many ways so Nene-Chan’s love confession would work, but nothing worked… Then she found out that there was a tool called‘En musubi’(to succeed in love) from the bag which Hanako-Kun accidentally dropped.

 

 

 

 

 

 

That was a mermaid scale with the legend “If two people swallow the same mermaid scale, they will have a strong bond”. Nene-Chan blamed on Hanako-Kun, who had been hiding such an incredible tool from her, ended up swallowing it up.

 

 

 

 

 

 

As a result, Nene-Chan started to “pay the cost” one after another. “To have a strong bond” through the scale didn’t mean “a bond in love” but “those who get the curse of mermaid become fish”.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The owner of the scale came visited Nene-Chan who became fish.

The owner said that she has to be a part of his family since now she wore his scale.

And she was about to be taken away, not knowing such a fact.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Hanako-Kun stopped him, saying “You’re interfering our business”.

He said he was the one who wanted to make a contract with her, and he would never give away Nene-Chan.

And he pushed the mermaid away quickly and got Nene-Chan back!

 

 

 

 

 

 

Hanako-Kun asked Nene-Chan if she really wanted to be back to human even though she would have to pay the cost. Seeing her really want to be back to human, Hanako-Kun swallowed the other half of the mermaid scale.

 

Saying, “Pay the cost, using your flesh”.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Like this, the ghost Hanako-Kun and Nene-Chan ended up sharing the mermaid curse.

Since Hanako-Kun accepted most part of the curse, Nene-Chan now was able to live as a human in some extent.

What is the cost that Nene-Chan has to pay, which Hanako-Kun demands…?

 

 

 

 

 

 

Guess what? It was a working force.

In short, he asked her to be his assistant so they can search and solve various incidents together. Since he is a ghost, something might not work well. In that case, she can support him as a human. Hanako-Kun looked so happy to have a human assistant since he had wanted one for long!

 

 

 

 

 

 

Thus, Hanako-Kun and Nene-Chan got the strong bond, swallowing the scale of the same mermaid. What is Hanako-Kun’s purpose of having Nene-Chan be his assistant? Then from the radio at school, the rumor of the new mysterious incident is broadcasted…

We cannot stop reading the original manga since it’s depicted so well about interaction with the ghost, which never exists in this world. The story is a little sad but the images are so cute! It’s easy to read! Some sad stories, which relate with death and mystery, touch our heart…!

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mafuyu(^q^)/ :By the way… another key-visual boy is Minamoto Kou-Kun, who is an exorcist! He tries to get rid of Hanako-Kun, who has mysterious power! Then Nene-Chan tries to stop him, saying “Hanako-Kun saved me! He never hurts anybody! So stop doing that…!”
