What is Setsubun?

Setsubun is one of the Japanese events, originally from China, where we cleanse away all the evils of the former year and drive away diseased-bringing evil spirits for the year to come. Setsubun (before the beginning of spring in Japan) used to be a special time because spring was a sort of New Year’s Eve. On that day, we do ‘mamemaki (bean scattering)’. Roasted soybeans are thrown (of course gently) either out the door or at a member of the family wearing an Oni (demon or ogre) mask, while people say ‘Demons out! Luck in!’.

Mafuyu(^q^)/ :So today! I’ll feature THAT Chara, related with demons! Yes… speaking of the demon in Kimetsu no Yaiba… THAT Chara, right?

What is Kibutsuji Muzan like?

It’s not too much to say that he is the “demon”, who is the ringleader of everything.

He is the first ex-human, who became the “demon” figure in the world and the leader of all the existing demons. His blood can change human to the demons so he increases the number of the demon by killing innocent people and pouring his blood on them. The reason why ex-human Kamado Nezuko turned into the demon is because she got his blood pour into her body.

He has been driven to a corner by the swordsman, who wore “Hanafuda no Mimikazari” (earrings) so he ordered his subordinate to kill Kamado Tanjirou, who had the same earrings. His personality is, literally, like a “demon”, being selfish, lax, brutal and cruel. He never shows mercy to his enemies, even to his allies but sometimes shows smiles or generosity to the demons who have cruelty like him or the ones who try to improve themselves.

By the way, he is able to transform his body freely, even changing the sex. In Episode 26, he called his subordinates who didn’t make a good result, and he executed those who made an excuse or who begged for life. This is one of the most famous scenes in Kimetsu no Yaiba, where he showed his personality most.
