The main character, Nanase Haruka, is a high school student who loves swimming more than anything. He is a very talented and competitive swimmer, but he is not always interested in competition. He just loves to swim as his life work!

In the anime first season, Haruka who was not a competitive swimmer, reunited with his childhood friend, Matuoka Rin who just came back from a study abroad program for swimming in Sidney. The story started developing from here.

The anime’s second season describes the time when Haruka was a high school senior. Then, the anime’s third season describes the time when Haruka was in college! The seasons are related to each other closely. The characters from High Speed!, which is about Haruka's middlle school era, appeared in the 3rd season when they were in college.

Anime movies used to be a summary of episodes that had already aired as anime. However, Free!-the Final Stroke- that started airing this September, is a totally new original anime! It will be the story of Haruka when he is in college. The first to third seasons in the anime describe him when he was in high school through college. So we recommend that you watch the third season as a prologue to the movie.

This movie is the first half of the story!
The second half of the movie will be released in April 2022!

Since it is the final chapter of the story, the movie, Free! -the Final Stroke- is long!

It consists of two parts! The last half will be released in 6 months, April 2022! So after you watch the first half, you have time to recap the anime that aired in the past. (It is a little frustrating not to be able to watch the last half of the movie right away though!)
