What is Hanyou no Yashahime (Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon) anyway?

Hanyou no Yashahime (Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon) is a manga that is written and illustrated by a manga artist, Takahashi Rumiko-Sensei who created many mega hit manga in the 2000s. This manga is a sequel of her manga, InuYasha.
The story takes place a couple of decades after the completion of the InuYasha story. It is an original anime series and there is no manga based on this anime series. (After the anime series started, the anime was comicalized and has been released now.)
Anime season 1 started from October 2020 until March 2021. Then season 2 started since October 2021.
InuYasha is a story of a high school girl in the modern age, who stepped back into the warring states period. In the story, she met with many people and monsters and was going on an adventure in the warring states period. (It is a super short summary though!) This manga series took 12 years to complete and issued 56 volumes of comic books in total. I personally think it had a great ending!

The sequel of Inuyasha is Hanyou no Yashahime! Since the anime season 1 aired 24 episodes (twice as many episodes as usual), the currently airing season 2 is also expected to be aired for as long as season 1. In season 1, new characters were introduced with a different ending than the manga version.

Higurashi Towa

Towa is a daughter of Sesshomaru who is a brother of InuYasha. She is 14 years old.
She is the older twin sister of Setsuna. They were living together when they were in the warring states. One day there was a wildfire in the woods. While they were trying to escape from the fire, Towa stepped forward into the modern age.
The main character of the previous story, Kagome from InuYasha and her family saved Towa. She started living life in the modern age with them. She was considered as a halfblooded monster, so her physical ability is overwhelmingly higher than humans. She is a cheerful good girl. She loves her friends and families.

Setsuna

Setsuna is a daughter of Sesshomaru who is the older brother of InuYasha. She is 14 years old and the younger twin sister of Towa.
She was separated from Towa while in the middle of the chaos of a wildfire 10 years ago but was saved at a village where people were trying to fight against monsters.
She is a quiet person, but smiled often when she was little. After the separation from her twin sister, she became calmer and collected. Also she lost her memory due to a monster, so she does not remember anything about her twin sister, Towa.

Moroha

Moroha is a daughter of InuYasha and Kagome. She is also 14 years old.
She inherited great battle ability and a great sense of smell from her father, InuYasha. She now works as a bounty hunter. Very smart. She quickly recognizes Towa’s items from the modern age. She is a little aggressive and too energetic sometimes, but has great communication skills. She cares for Towa and Setsuna as her first friends.
The three girls live without parents due to various reasons, and they all grew up without knowing much about their parents.
Anime season 1 was about fighting against a monster that wiped out Setsuna’s childhood memory. Also, they were asked to help fighting against the monsters Kirinmaru and Sesshomaru who were planning to destroy the world by Tree of Ages. Tree of Ages is the key to the bridge between the modern age and the warring states period.

Towa and Setsuna were asked to fight against their own father, Sesshomaru. It was a tough call and they decided to decline. With Moroha, the three girls tried to find information from Kirinmaru and Setsuna’s memory...... this is the rough outline for season 1. The final episode of season 1 was quite dramatic! So I will not spoil it here.
In season 2, I wonder if the three girls can reunite with their parents. Towa has a family in the modern age. The Higurashi family who took care of Towa is very important to her, but I am hoping everyone could unite with their parents and stay together again!
I can’t wait to watch the final episode of season 2, but you should recap season 1 from the beginning as well!
