Season 4 started on January 4th, 2023! Bungou Stray Dogs was already made into anime 4 times! This is a very popular series but let’s review the story together quickly!

What is Bungou Stray Dogs?

The story takes place in a different world where people have superpowers.
Members of the Armed Detective Agency will solve problems with their superpowers in the city called Yokohama!

In a nutshell, settings for all the characters in Bungou Stray Dogs are based on real-life novelists. This is a fantasy battle story and characters use their unique superpowers!

For example, the main character of Bungou Stray Dogs, Nakajima Atsushi, is based on Nakajima Atsushi (the same name) who was Japan’s great author in the early 1900s. The main character, Atsushi’s personality, his superpower, and ideas for his character settings are base on the great author’s actual literature!

Here is the super simple recap of anime seasons 1 to 3!
  • Anime season 1
    • Nakajima Atsushi became a member of the Armed Detective Agency.
  • Anime season 2
    • To protect the city of Yokohama, three organizations, the Armed Detective Agency, Port Mafia and The Guild started fighting each other.
  • Anime season 3
    • Another group, Rats in the House of the Dead, attacked Yokohama and the Agency tried to fight back.
  • Movie version (Dead Apple)
    • A side story. There are some parts related to the previous cases in the original story, but it is a completely original story, not described in the manga version.

Anime season 4 continues the story from season 3, the battles with a gang of thieves, Rats in the House of the Dead, in Yokohama!
So, if you have time, I recommend that you watch at least season 3 before watching season 4! If you have time, watch all previous seasons!

If you do not have time to watch previous seasons, but if you can read manga version, try to read it from volumes 1 to 13 so that you can cover the story of all previous seasons of anime!
