Sailor Moon is a landmark anime and comic of early 1990s. 100% of girls of my generation watched this anime and it became a social phenomenon. Sailor Moon created and set a precedent of the genre so called “bisyoujo seinshi mono (pretty soldier genre). Of course there were magical girl anime until then but there are two big differences. Firstly, until Sailor Moon, only protagonist was magical girl. But from Sailor Moon, not only protagonists but also her friends are also magical girl. Secondly, until Sailor Moon, battle was not main plot. But from Sailor Moon, battle became a main plot. After Sailor Moon, you can see many pretty soldier genre anime such as Pretty Cure series, which is very popular among current young children, Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch, Ojamajo Doremi and so on.

The author conceived the idea of Sailor Moon from “美少女仮面ポワトリン(Bishojo Kamen Powatorin)” and “Super Sentai Series”. Takeuchi is a collector of Sailor Moon doujinshi and she has published doujinshi by her own.

By the way, the author Takeuchi Naoko married to Togashi Yoshihiro who is the author of “Yu Yu Hakusho”, “Hunter × Hunter” and “Level E”. Hagiwara Kazushi, who is the author of “Bastard!!”, introduced Togashi to Takeuchi. Hata Kenjirou, who is the author of “Hayate the Combat Butler”, was an assistant of Takeuchi.

The name of the protagonist Tsukino Usagi (Tsuki means moon, no means field and usagi means rabbit) comes from dark patches on the moon. It looks like rabbit making rice-cake from Japan.
My favorite character is Sailor Uranus and Prince Demand. Uranus stole my heart away. The voice actress of Uranus Ogata Megumi who is also voice actress of Kurama in YuYu Hakusho, Ikari Shinji in Neon Genesis Evangelion, Tsukishiro Yukito in Cardcaptor Sakura, Mutou Yugi in Yu-Gi-oh! and Naegi Makoto in Danganponpa. I like the voice of Ogata so much and all of the characters above are my favorite! Since I like Prince Demand so much, I didn’t want Tuxedo Mask to release Usagi lol

Ihara Kunihiko, a director of Sailor Moon anime series, founded his own creative group, Be-Papas, after Sailor Moon. It is consisting of himself, the famous shōjo manga artist Chiho Saito, animator Hasegawa Shinya (animation supervisor for Sailor Moon, Neon Genesis Evangelion and so on), writer Enokido Youji (script writer of Sailor Moon, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Ouran High School Host Club, Nodame Cantabile, Star Driver and so on) and producer Okuro Yuuichiro (script writer of Dtagon Ball, Gekiganger III, Kemonozume, Hanamaru Kindergarten, (Zoku) Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei and so on). Be-Papas collaborated to produce the anime and manga series “Revolutionary Girl Utena”. Recently, he produced the anime “Penguindrum”. I am a big fan of Ihara Kunihiko and his anime too.

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, who is the most popular Japanese model and recording artist among teenagers, is known to be a fan of Sailor Moon and her favorite character is Chibiusa. Her music video “CANDY CANDY” reminds me of Chibiusa. Please watch it if you feel the same way (^_-)

It is announced Sailor Moon will be made into anime again this year as a celebration of the 20th anniversary! It will be broadcast all over the world from July at Nico Nico Douga. What is more, anniversary action figures will be released in this April from as S.H.Figuarts! It will be made into musical too! This year will be a big year for Sailor Moon fans!
