The two Ninja groups in Japan – “Iga Ninja” and “Koga Ninja.” What are the differences between them?

Ninja were a type of warrior during the Sengoku period in Japan. They were specialized in unconventional warfare such as espionage, sabotage, and assassinations to help their monarch.
The theme of the anime, Shinobi no Ittoki, is the two major Ninja groups that still exist in Japan! Their main differences are attitude toward the tasks, the organizational structure, and specialized ninjutsu that is the independent art of warfare.

Iga Ninjya

  • The relationship between the client (monarch): They worked for anyone as they were needed. It is similar to the modern business style.
  • Organizational structure: There was a hierarchy within the organization. The decisions were made by the upper echelon.
  • Specialized Ninjutsu: Fire and sorcery related.

Kouga Ninjya

  • The relationship between the client (monarch): They were hired by a monarch and remained with him until their death.
  • Organizational structure: There is no strict hierarchy. The decisions were made by meetings in a group.
  • Specialized Ninjutsu: Medical and bedazzlement related.
※As a side note. Ninja’s descendants still alive in modern Japan!

Story of Shinobi no Ittoki

Ninja were long gone. Everyone thought so.
The main character, Ittoki, is an ordinary student.
One day, all of sudden, his life was targeted by a group of ninja!
A Koga ninja helped Ittoki and told him that Ittoki was an official successor of the Koga Ninja group.
Kouga Ninja’s previous heir was assassinated just recently.
It was thought to be committed by a ninja from the rival group, Iga.
However,
“It seems there was a traitor within the Kouga group.”
Two major groups of Ninja that have survived until this modern world started battling each other for their life and death.
Who killed the Kouga heir?
Ittoki found out his birth secret and decided to live as a Ninja to protect his group and family.
Iga and Kouga are the main groups and very famous in the Ninja world. They were described in various anime before. This anime is an original anime and there is no original manga or novel. So we can’t know how the story develops in advance! We will have to watch the anime every week, which is fun!
